All praises to Allah (swt). We had an excellent event which was well attended by local youths. The chairperson, Fahad Kiani, introduced both speakers and the format of the event. Our first speaker was Hamjah Tzortzis who has given many talks, held debates and the author of the website www.theinimitablequran.com. He addressed the hypocrisy and double standards of the west when they use ‘Freedom’ and illustrated the real motive behind the call of Dutch MPs to ban the Quran. He then presented the intellectual challenge of the Qur’an: A book that changed a people who had no vision and no progress to be the leaders of two-thirds of the known world. Our second speaker was Jamil Abu Rayaan who is a prolific youth speaker and a well-known personality in our local community. He articulated the point that the attack on Islam is upon an intellectual front - a battle of ideas. He encouraged the audience to learn about Islam and know how to defend it - If Muslims don’t defend Islam who will?
The audience in the Q&A asked daring and thought-provoking questions. Some made the comments that we should put their secular values under the microscope and will soon realise that they don’t have any authority to talk about justness, equality and progress when their systems are in chaos, like their justice systems, with increase knife crimes and, economically bankrupt due the effects of credit crunch. The audience was overall impressed and are looking forward to the next event.
