On Saturday 19th July 2008 the Muslim Community Representatives Camden & Islington had stalls and Marquees at the King's Cross County Show, Coram Fields where 3000 to 4000 people attended throughout the day. Our purpose at the County Show was in light of the intellectual attack on the beliefs of Islam and the on going attack on our community we went there to clarify issues in regards to Islam to the Muslim Community and the wider Non-Muslim Community.
The idea we used was called 'Borrow a Muslim', when anyone goes to a library they borrow different titles of books to read. When the people came to our stall and marquee they were able to borrow a muslim male or female who represented different titles i.e. Caliphate, Shariah, Women in Islam, Economic System, Punishment System in Islam, and general Islamic Beliefs etc. People borrowed the Muslims for about half and hour over refreshments and during that time asked questions and seeked clarification on the title selected. The event was a huge success the brothers and sisters we had were borrowed one after another having no rest throughout the day. The feedback we got from the people that attended our stall and marquee were like:
'What an inventive idea to bring people to understand Islam'
'More initiatives like this is needed to counter the prejudices of Islam'
The people who attended our stall and marquee were mainly Non-Muslim but we had a large selection of Muslims also attend our stall and marquee. Everyone who visited our stall and marquee commented on how well thought the idea was and how important more ideas and interaction like this need to take place. At the event we also had a Islamic Exhibition which included the ruling system of Islam, plus we had a stalls with books to sell and we gave away free English translation Qur'an's and Islamic leaflets.
