This is short introduction to the Islamic Month of Ramadhan explained by Yusuf Islam
Ramadhan is the name of the ninth month of the Islamic Calender and it is not a term used to mean fasting!
Muslims fast by not eating and drinking from dawn to sunset, not the whole day! They do this through the whole month of Ramadhan (ie 29 or 30 days) as worship to Allah, the Most Supreme, not for any diet or for the poor!
In this Month they increase in the charity, not because they have more to spend! But as a recommended action for which there is lot of spiritual rewards.
And this Month was made special and blessed by Allah, the Most High, since this is when the Qur’an was revealed.
