The event addressed a very important issue for the Muslims that while in the western world many will be celebrating the birth of a “Son of God”, the Muslims also had something special to celebrate that day and every day - the final revelation from God - the Qur’an.
The chairperson for the day was Ustadh Ibn Kamal al-Din, who is a Hanafi Fiqh teacher, a prolific speaker and writer. He introduced the Event, the reasons for the event and the speakers.
The event then began by a beautiful Qur'an recitation by Imam Qaiser, a graduate from the prestigious ‘Muhammad ibn Saud’ university of Saudi Arabia.
The first speaker was Mualana Ihsan Ahmed, who is an Islamic Scholar and the former-head imam of Shah Jalal Masjid (Euston). He spoke about the “Quranic Character”. He mentioned that Umul Mu’minin Ayesha (ra) said that the Rasulullah’s (saws) character was the Qur’an [Sahih Muslim] and therefore to acquire this Quranic Character we must follow Rasulullah (saws). He then elaborated that as a father, politician, brother, friend, businessman etc we should and must learn and emulate how Rasulullah (saws) was as a father, politician, brother, friend, businessman and so on.
The second speaker Ustadh Kamal Abu Zahrah, who is to finish his PhD on Fiqh al Akaliyah, spoke about a matter that Muslims have forgotten that their belief is based upon intellectual proofs and not the fideism pushed by many religions today. He went onto explain that the main miracle that Rasulullah (saws) came with was the Qur’an as he (saws) said “Every Prophet was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given is Divine Inspiration which Allah has revealed to me” [Sahih Bukhari]. Using a projector, the Ustadh meticulously touched upon some amazing literature miracles of the Qur’an.
Umar al-Afghani, who is a Tajweed Teacher, recited some amazing verses from Surah Ar-Rahman in one of the rare 7 dialects of recitation.

The last speaker was Dr Abu Luqman, who is the author of a very relevant book in our times, ‘The Sixty Sultaniyyah’. He mentioned that our attitude towards the Qur’an have become like a people that the Rasulullah (saws) described when he replied to one of his companions (ra), “O Ziyad, do these Jews and Christians not recite the Torah and the Bible but not act according to what is contained in them?” [Musnad Ahmed]. He elaborated that the Qur’an needs to be implemented in all aspects of our lives from our individual prayers to ruling by Islam and not just to win Qir’at competitions!
We also had 2 other presenters, one a student of a local madrasha reciting a chapter of the Qur’an and the other a convert from Denmark who shared some of his thoughts on his embracing of Islam due to the Literature Miracle of the Qur’an.
The event ended with a sincere dua’ (supplication) to keep the Ummah attached to the Qur’an in memorisation and implementation. Free refreshments and food was then provided.
Wa alhamdulillahir Rabbil 'alamin
